Note: Because these decals ideally should be mailed flat and unbent, the U.S. Postal Service is charging "Package Rate" for a 6"x9" envelope with a cardboard stiffener, meaning that the base postage the first ounce is $1.13. Shipping for U.S. & Canadian customers is now $1.00, added to the decal item total. If you're in the U.S. or Canada and ordering by Paypal or sending check or money order, please tack on that $1.00 to cover the base cost of shipping your decals unbent (hopefully) by the postal people. DECAL NEWS (02 Apr 08):
New 1/48 Mercury-Redstone and Saturn IB 1/48 decals are in! A slight fix to the Mercury-Redstone docs can be seen on the home page and will be included in the placement docs. Alps waterslide custom decal service is closed. Saturn V decals are still available as BIG 1/48 scale set. All smaller scale Saturn V yellow markings still available for free as silkscreen waterslide decals printed by Microscale. X-15 still coming soon along with ISS markings.

• The 1/48 Mercury-Redstone booster markings are in, available as booster only (#MR48) and as a bundle with the spacecraft decals (#MRB48) Check the top of the product list for all info. A "missing" antenna has been located in photos and has been added to the placement docs. The silver trim film scrap included in the set is still plenty big to make one more thin strip to represent the unpainted antenna visible on the instrument section.

• As you can see from the product listing at the top of the page, SMS Inc. is offering a 1/48 scale set of Saturn IB decals. Some 1/48 static models exist already, from scratchbuilt displays to custom commercial versions, and at least one 1/48 flying kit is available from Sheri's Hot Rockets (for which SMS had previously supplied Alps-printed markings). This is a challenging scale for this size launch vehicle and spacecraft, but some modelers are already stepping up to the plate.

• The small yellow markings for the Saturn V have been professionally printed by Microscale in 1/96, 1/144, and 1/48 scales. The 1/96 and 1/144 sets are for the Revell and Airfix kits, and the 1/48 is for scratchbuilt or flying Saturn V models. The yellow stencilling had previously been printed on an Alps machine, and the new printing is included with the #SA96, #SB96, and #SA144 decals. Anyone who had ordered Saturn V decals from SMS in the past can receive the replacements free by sending a self-addressed & stamped #10 letter-sized First Class Mail envelope. Out-of-U.S. customers please send an envelope with return postage for 1.0 ounces.

• The decal set for the Special Hobby 1/48 X-15 was supposed to have gone off to Microscale more than a couple of months ago, and they will be going off shortly. Most of the little stencils and a few new color bits have been done and are in final scale checking.

• ISS markings in 1/144 for the Revell and IMR kits are getting finished; JAXA and ESA logos are finishing up, along with lots of little module labels.

• Special Hobby has now produced a 1/32 scale X-15. Still no idea if this will include a separate kit for the white X-15 A-2 as they did for their 1/48 scale kits, but it's assumed they will do it. This move to a larger scale will probably result in a larger set of decals from SMS, possibly with a wider array of small skin panel labels. On the other end of the scale range, a smaller collection of markings may be printed for the 1/72 kits out in the wild.

• The Alps custom waterslide decal printing service is closed due to the fact that Alps officially abandoned the Micro-Dry printers, including ink ribbons and repairs. The SMS Alps printer stopped operating and is no longer here. Custom decal art files can still be created for professional printing by silkscreen companies like Microscale; feel free to discuss your job with us.
